Creation of Economic and Intellectual Value via Human Rights

As it’s a case with any business organization, for it to be continuously successful it has to improve, innovate, grow in a variety of ways. The essence of growth or innovation is primarily incremental in key performance areas such as increased revenues, better quality of products etc. Although procedures and policies in practice often result in the curtailment of certain resources, that is also deemed as innovation such as cost effective production, cheaper raw materials etc. Inadvertently resources and their uses are continuously being reshuffled in micro and macro-economic environments.

Similarly, the global policy making of sovereign states also fall into the same category, there is always a continuous need and desire by mere nature of mankind to improve and generate value. A recent example here could be included of European Union and UK itself. Via creation of EU and extensive deregulation among member states an era of economic growth and value creation was ushered in. Over the time EU was expanded to include more countries as well which is simply an organic growth model. Once in a while we heard arguments that certain countries should not be included in the European Union as they does not fulfil the criteria of value creation in existing set-ups. Most recently UK has decided to hold a referendum on EU membership, which could simply be classified as a cost cutting decision by the existing government of UK. It may generate value or may not but its definitely an attempt to create value by disassociation from a certain set-up.

Similarly the progression in human right values over time could be viewed via the same lens. Human social set-ups have to adapt, improve, innovate and create value over time in order to become better or simply progress. Over 100 years ago when women were given the right to vote, it was an admittance of their capability of equal contribution towards society on par with men. This later paved the way for the presence of women in every industry sector. This ushered in every trend and reality that we perceive as normal today. Women entrepreneurs, business leaders, pilots whatever you can think of, the situation is still not currently ideal as of yet, but it still has been a revolution. I believe that as one organization outperforms another through best practices and innovation similarly countries, sovereign states can outperform each other. The ability of Europe and western world to include 50% half (women) of their population in general economic set-up created a competitive advantage over other nations. Now today women voting rights is something standard across the globe, they can work and perform in a number of roles, no questions asked.

So how to innovate further and create even more value in the society. A recent development that can be pointed at is Gay Rights, by giving them the right to get married in religious establishments is effectively bringing them on equal par with other couples and other matrimonial bonds that exist in a society. Although it was not an entirely ground up development but sealing it with the backing of law a foundation has been laid down for next few years where it exist as a standard. For the sake of argument if we assume that within a society if the Homosexual population is 2%, its fair to assume that an additional 2% value has been created in an increasingly competitive environment.

Another important development that could be mentioned here is recognition of peoples choices by society by ignoring the need to classify them or certify them through some legal structures. Such as most of the Government forms these days contain options if you are married, civil partnerships or partners. Getting married is more primal concept, civil partnerships rather modern and Partner the most modern or Neomodern. People live together for years without having the need to get married and can enjoy tax benefits and many other privileges which married couples are entitled too.

The concept of the partners and its acceptance in a society is perhaps the most modern and natural. In an ideal world the mere choices of peoples and their word should be enough to qualify as an authentic fact. Metro-sexual relations has been such a constant over the course of mankind history that today we don’t exactly have the need to have it identified by getting married. Since Homosexuality was a crime until few decades ago, it was important to decriminalize it first then getting to recognize it legally, now in the latest turn of events to bring it on par with normal matrimonial relationships by allowing Gay marriages to be conducted in the church.

The evolution of social norms and legal structures just around human relationships and sexual choices is quite fascinating. The primary motivation here is to appreciate the human values, but it can be argued that it has resulted in better economic outputs of nations, similarly an increased intellectual output of nations. After having introduced primary changes such as recognition of equal gender rights as explained above, massive value has been created in human output. It all seems natural now and logical.

My point here is that we have now reached a critical point in human evolution, now the economic and intellectual value must be created through identifying more natural human behaviours. A small journey just to the acceptance of people’s choice to live together as partners without getting married says a lot about us.
