Fear, Courage, Honesty, Faithfulness, Loyalty, Love, Wretchedness etc are some of the concepts/behaviors that we have created in our societies to help us understand ourselves, identified their usefulness in different aspects of our lives.
Formation of new relationships, business contracts or engaging in other social and economic acts, we gauge them on certain scales for different purposes. Whether we like it or not they have an economic and human value to them, some very good business models have been based on them primarily such as warfare, social care, financial systems etc.
Mankind’s quest to harness and chase these qualities among fellow humans and in business contracts is defining element of today’s world. Contrary to common notion and practices the above traits, qualities, behaviors are secondary. They are more of an action-reaction phenomenon, and our understanding stuck only on the reaction part of it.
The action or starting point of this chain of events is rather a vague one some good guesses are the intention, desire, the will of a certain person or an organization. It should be noted that just as fear, courage, honesty, faithfulness are abstract concepts similarly intention, desire and will are. It’s fair to assume that our understanding which hints at the binary nature of the above behaviors is rather misleading. We as a mankind has been paying a price for this lack of understanding for some thousand years till now.
Just like evolution has enabled us to become more intelligent physically and structurally thus given us a better control of our environments. Similarly, the emergence of these behaviors/characteristics or their perception is merely an evolution of our survival instincts and emotional intelligence.
But it does not mean that these characteristics are absolute or final evolutionary stages of our emotional intelligence. What the perception of these behaviors has done is enabled us to have a certain control over ourselves, and the environment. This has allowed us in return to come up with rules, laws, regulations and other forms of acceptable social behaviors, to help us form complex societies and social setups such as countries, religions, organizations etc.
It has been an evolution from unquantifiable or analogous concepts to a binary system and then finally creating static imbalanced systems. The legal laws of any country, rules, and regulations of any organization, best practices of any industry are these static states of our intelligence therefore not quite natural.
Honesty is an infinite scale actually, but we perceive it to be present or absent. Where we perceive it to exist we create rules to sustain it, make sure of it, where it’s deemed absent we still create rules to create better probability for it to exist. Misuse of mathematics is rather fundamental to the problem. Just like our understanding of morals, behaviors, our use of mathematics is fundamentally flawed. We are continuously attempting to use it to generate presumed results and effects. Our use of probability is rather probable.
In a brave new world of organic, natural and ethical, some organic consideration is required to our behaviors and mathematics as well.
