Have I really moved on from Pakistan? Have I made some progress over the last few years since I have completed my MBA. Is my journey to discover myself and destiny is reaching any fruitful conclusion. It’s a question that I have asked myself again and again over the last few years. But there is no definitive answer to this whole question as there are various aspects to this question and can be addressed on different multiple levels. However the constant desire to improve yourself and being truthful to yourself is the most efficient feedback mechanism that you can have.
Its also important to understand the nature of problem at hand, various psychological vices and self-awareness. At the start of this journey there was this desperation to improve myself, to run into things, only most of the time hitting wall, failing literally thousands of times over these last few years. The hardest part of this journey and struggle in the start is that its happening inside of your head. This is the most trickiest part, a whole loads of people give up on this stage, with no feedback mechanism to govern your actions, most of the time your own personal biases driving the direction of this struggle. A very negative view and adverse perception of yourself, pits you against your own self. Now looking back at this whole problem and situation, I have come to realise and understand that the qualities, attributes and desires that we aspire to are often several years making in progress. Intelligence, spontaneousness, hard work, mindfulness, decision making, courage, bravery are in no way fixed characteristics. We gradually develop them, nurture them, we learn to become honest, truthful, brave gradually, through a continuous process of feedback and trying.
The hardest part is to first be first able to live comfortable inside of your own head, despite seeing no signs of improvement in your own life, in your surroundings, there is always this strong negative judgement of your own self that you have to conquer, then sometimes it’s a fight against perceived judgement of other people around you, the society, the socioeconomic realities and expectations.
Realising after many months down the road, that you are still essentially living inside your own head can break you. What we continuously fail to understand that our mind is the most flexible, useful, experimental, modern, creative and safest space that we can ever hope of living in, expressing ourselves and experimenting within it. However we may choose to live our life’s, its this space in our heads that will serve as the most important production line of ideas, possibilities and changes. Doubt it, pollute it, not use it well at your own expense.
What I have understood so far is that being unable to understand this stage of the process, the requisite skill and time that it can take (often years) is not properly understood or we tend to ignorantly simplify it. Its important that we get comfortable living within our head, any meaningful changes in perspective or reality are not possible without first completing this stage as avidly and committedly.
Now something that exist essentially in our own heads, how do you measure it, how do you track progress, how do you create a feedback mechanism, how do you know that if its working. Without essentially declaring yourself mad.Over the last few years science has offered us profound understanding of ourselves into our brains, behaviours, we have developed various perspective to look at the problems in multiple ways. What were once the subjective values such as our feelings and emotions are after all not elusive, we can certainly attach a value to them, have started to quantify them. A process of creating a more real reality, living a more real life, more informed decisions is the promise of this approach. It does not mean that any changes inspired by this approach will bring about greatest changes in our physical reality. However the potential of this approach is massive, quantified, enhanced over thousands of your moments of life, it can have exponential effect. That’s where the potential becomes massive and blows straight off the charts, of our own understanding and possibilities that it can offer.
Living inside your own head is an art, its not an easy one to master, it is as essential to human progress as education is, as traditional healthcare is, as financial systems are, as technology is. Those things have exactly existed because of this ability of ours to live within our heads comfortably and masterfully. In the process however we have ended up creating tools, processes and systems to enhance and improve our ability of living within our heads. It’s a matter of Application of these new technologies to this relatively elusive aspect of our personal and social lives, that we can still improve own massively.
The easiest way of doing this, keeping track of progress is as simple as keeping a journal, writing those few lines on your blog, that Instagram history, saying those little things that can embarrass you. Today when I set onto next thing such as eradicating doubt, be a little more direct, study quantum physics, changing my career, I allow sufficient time, now I know through experience sometimes its not easy as it sounds. My mind that was turning against me, is not what it seems, in fact it’s the best tool at my disposal. A simple awareness of the problem, the complexity of the task, the willingness to engage with the problem “even inside your own head” can be as good as any start, the possibilities are endless.
Its an ability that we have grossly underestimated ourselves at!
