In an increasingly dynamic, mobile, constantly evolving world, where change is influenced everyday by exponential factors. They are sometimes broadly categorized into technological, cultural, political or in other combinations, but our attempts to categorizing them are as vain as its natural for the change to be unpredictable. Though it still helps to sometimes understand them, by viewing through the lens of established mindsets, established scientific fields. But rarely the most important is so confined. This pattern of increasing complexity & overlapping is a hallmark of almost every modern technology, product design and service delivery. The old which has led to this stage was simpler or at least understood to be as such, just as evolution in beginning was meant to be in simpler living organisms thus we had simpler cycle of life. This is also truer of the noise in the minds of children and adults. Some sees entropy, some sees the ability of life to enact itself better than before.
The future of mankind may seem complex, out of control, with dizzying complexity is not entirely correct. In fact its going to be much simpler in its day to day execution. While we are generating complex, but the overall result is headed to simpler. The most profound change that’s gonna happen is going to be in our execution (social) lives namely domestic and work. A host of technologies such as Blockchain, New Space, micro-entrepreneurship models, driverless cars, hopefully Quantum can join in. In addition to all of that our modern social attitudes such as tendency to change jobs every few years, desire to travel the world, fluid sexual lives, global social movements etc are the indicators of this constant change happening within us and around us, the only constant is either our continuously changing selves or change itself, which are increasingly difficult to separate now.
Life when becomes static, decays and die. Its essential for it to keep moving, this characteristic is closest to nature, whatever we perceive it to be. Same is truer of ideas and creativity. Hundreds of organizations die every year sometimes for the lack of ideas, sometimes for the lack of people, sometimes for the lack of spirit. We may not yet understand the effect of the flow of peoples, spirit, the collective soul, the role of energy which defines the true presence/existence of an organization, but we have come to understand one characteristic of this multi-dimensional entity very well which we call the economics.
People leave, sometimes are forced to leave, with them they carry the residual economics, while also leaving behind the residual economics as well. When organizations die or people move on, our collective perception is that we have lost economic potential/value. This aspect is easier to understand because the most important product that we have designed so far to this date to characterize life is money, the concept of value & transaction. Its existence has become second nature to the mankind itself. This blogpost is not about the evil of money or its significance in our advancement but about how we can take a different view of the change which is life, and how we can seek to understand or on the least attempt to present a different way of looking at things around us, within us. What causes the dispersal, failure, creation of our socio-economic structures which are sometimes our organizations, cities, towns, continents, ecosystems etc. How we could understand this, introduce a new lens, or discover some ancient wisdom. Looking at the change in an organizational context may just help us do that. Can this socio-economic movement, generation or decay can be harnessed for the betterment of mankind or at least fantasized about in a different way.
