President Trump’s Speech on Tariffs and American Resurgence
“Time to Be Hungry and Foolish Again”
(Trump steps up to the podium, adjusts the microphone, looks around, smirks a little.)
“Okay, folks. Let’s talk. Let’s talk about what’s happening. Because a lot of people—smart people, by the way, very smart—are saying, ‘Mr. President, why the tariffs? Why are you doing this? Why make things harder?’ And you know what I say? I say, ‘Because we got too comfortable. That’s why. Because America got soft!’
“Now, listen. We used to be the best. No question about it. The best. Factories booming. Jobs everywhere. People working hard. And guess what? The whole world saw it. They looked at us, they said, ‘Wow. Look at America. Look at them! They’re incredible!’ And you know who was watching very closely? China. Oh yeah, China was watching.
“Now, let me tell you something. China? They were a disaster. A total disaster. Dirt poor, folks. I mean, really bad. You wouldn’t believe it. But here’s the thing—they saw us, they saw our success, and they said, ‘We want that too.’ And you know what? Good for them. I mean it. Good for them. They worked hard. They were hungry. They were starving. And when you’re starving, you work your ass off. That’s what they did! And guess what? It worked! It worked, folks.
“Meanwhile, here in America? We got fat. We got lazy. And don’t get me wrong—great people, wonderful people—but let’s be honest, folks. We lost that drive. You know it. I know it. We all know it. We stopped doing the tough jobs. We stopped fighting for every dollar.
“And look, I love this country. More than anything. That’s why we’re fixing this. That’s why we’re doing the tariffs. People say, ‘Oh, tariffs are bad, they’re gonna hurt.’ Yeah? Well, maybe we need a little hurt. Maybe we need to feel what it’s like to be hungry again. Because that’s what made America great in the first place! Hunger, drive, determination.
“China didn’t win because they were smarter. No way. They won because they worked harder. And guess what? Now it’s our turn. Now we work harder.
“These tariffs? They’re not about China. They’re about us. About bringing back that fire, that hunger. About reminding America what it’s like to fight again.
“So yeah, things might get tougher. Might not be easy. But let me tell you something—you watch. You watch what happens. Because in a few years, people are gonna look back at this and say, ‘That was the moment America got back in the game.’ That was the moment we got tough again.
“So we’re not giving up. We’re not backing down. We’re coming back stronger, better, tougher. And guess what? We’re gonna win. We are going to win.
“God bless you, and God bless the United States of America!”
(Trump steps back, gives a thumbs-up, crowd cheers.)
